OUR STORY

Wawa Sweets is the home-based baking business of Evette Denum. Evette grew up beside a bake shop and with women who loved to bake, especially her mom. Naturally, baking became an early interest, but decorating her creations were always a challenge. At 16, Evette took matters into her own hands and asked her mom to teach her how to bake a chocolate cake so she could make a black forest cake. From then on she was hooked and taught herself more decorating techniques. When she moved to Paris for school, she sold mocha chiffon birthday cakes to friends. It was a fun way to share her hobby, but what she really wished for, was to create the magnificent French pastries she saw in the patisseries. Once back in Canada baking took a backseat to motherhood, marriage and work. It was only in the past couple of years that Evette went back to baking seriously, determined to recreate some of the French pastries she once admired, while also mastering a handful of tried and true recipes. In 2019, Wawa Sweets was launched at the encouragement of her daughters, Bianca and Giselle. Wawa was her late son, Ethan's, favourite stuffed bear. The little blue bear has become a symbol for the family to remember Ethan and to celebrate his life. Ethan may be gone but his memory lives on through this business venture.
